The public has opportunities to shape policy this week as various Haverhill boards meet. In the interest of transparency in government, WHAV provides this list of upcoming meetings every week.
The MS Captain Red, a 105-feet long, 28-feet wide passenger ship, is expected to make its arrival in downtown Haverhill during high tide this Friday.
In advance of its arrival, major heavy-duty moorings were installed by crane Sunday in the Merrimack River, off Water Street in Haverhill. Tonight, members of the Haverhill Harbor Commission meet to work on final details. Tim Slavit, son of legendary beloved harbormaster William J. “Red” Slavit for whom the ship is named, explains the Harbor Commission’s role.

Local demands for federal help eliminating sewage discharges into the Merrimack River are being heard as Congresswoman Lori Trahan introduced bipartisan legislation requiring communities receive help paying for upgrades.
Trahan and Illinois Republican Darin LaHood reintroduced the Stop Sewage Overflow Act, designed to ensure the federal government does its part to support the cleanup and prevention of combined sewage overflows contamination in rivers across the nation.
“Combined sewage overflows continue to plague communities along the Merrimack River, and the federal government’s wilting support for efforts to prevent future polluting overflows has only made matters worse,” said Trahan, adding, “The Stop Sewage Overflow Act will finally put an end to decades of Washington’s determination to pass the buck for wastewater system upgrades onto state and local
ACE arrests assistant district public prosecutor for corruption

GUJRANWALA: An Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) team Monday arrested an assistant district public prosecutor over receiving bribe from a citizen.
Accused Imran Shahid received Rs 10,000 from a citizen for giving undue favour to him in a case. The ACE recovered tainted currency notes from the accused and registered a case against him.
Citizens deprived of cash, valuables: Citizens were deprived of cash and other valuables in several hits in different localities of Gujranwala on Monday. Two gunmen intercepted Haider Ali and his sister and snatched cash and a motorcycle from them. In Gakhar Mandi bandits snatched Rs 6,500 and motorcycles from Hamza and his friend Tauqeer.

Students at Sacred Hearts School in Bradford took part in helping to celebrate a 105-year-old Army veteran’s birthday this past Feb. 28.
It all started with a Facebook post by Honor Flight New England, an organization that transports America’s veterans to the memorials in Washington, D.C. and is dedicated to their honor and sacrifice. They put the call out that veteran Louise Fleming was turning 105 years old. She was an Army nurse who served in Italy during World War II and had taken a trip with them to the Washington, D.C. memorials.
